Are you thinking of getting a tattoo done? There are many different types of tattoos an individual can have done that are very popular. One popular tattoo style is the biomechanical tattoo. Here are some things to keep in mind before you get your biomechanical tattoo done.

What is a Biomechanical Tattoo?
This is a style of tattoo that’s done to reveal mechanical or robotic parts under the skin. This style of tattoo started in the 1980s and was made popular by illustrator H.R. Giger who worked on designs for the Alien movies. These tattoos are done in black or black and grey ink which portrays the silver mechanical parts. Sometimes color can be used in biomechanical tattoos too. Wires and tubing in the parts is usually done in a blue color while human tissue is colored red. The color of the design is usually left to the artist and the person getting the design done on their skin.

These tattoos are popular because they seem to be a part of the body and look like mechanical parts under the skin. You may look a bit like a robot or a cyborg when you have them done or have a robotic skeleton. These tattoos are very futuristic looking in their design. Some tattoos of this style have both biological and mechanical parts. There are so many different types of biomechanical tattoos that the choices are almost endless.

Choosing a Tattoo Shop
To get a biomechanical tattoo you will have to find a good tattoo shop. The best way to do this is to visit several in your area and see what they have to offer in terms of tattoos. Look around the shop and see how clean it is. When you go get a tattoo done you want to have the work done in a shop that’s very clean. This is for your health and safety. A clean shop will indicate that the artist cares about his or her clients and the work that they do. Never get a tattoo done in some “back alley” shop. Go to several shops and check the conditions.

Look Through Images
Most artists have portfolios of images a round their shops that you can look through. Spend some time in the shop to look through these images. You want to make sure that the artist is capable of drawing the intricate detail found in a biomechanical tattoo. Look through the images as this will give you a better idea of what the artist offers. Try to bring an image or at least an idea that you have so the artist has something to go on. This can help you get a better looking tattoo and it will be more along the lines of what you actually want.

Talk to the Artist

Talk to the artist that you want to have the work done with. Most tattoo artist love to talk about their work and if you’re lucky you can even see them doing some of their tattoos right in the shop which help you judge the artist even more. If you talk with them you’ll able to discuss your image idea and help the artist understand exactly what you want for your artwork.

Getting the Work Done

Be prepared for a few tattoo sittings to get the work completed as these tattoos tend to have plenty of details in them. Always go to the tattoo shop sober as you don’t want to be moving around on the table which can distract the artist and cause them to mess up your tattoo. If you have never had a tattoo done just realize that it can be quite an experience the first time and there is some pain involved but it really isn’t too bad. The image will bleed some and it can swell a bit after the work is completed. The artist will tell you how to care for the tattoo for the first few days after the biomechanical tattoo is done.
